Entry Level Environmental Scientist/Engineer

Role Overview 

Banda Group International, LLC (BGI) is currently accepting applications for an Entry Level Environmental Scientist to support the Albuquerque, NM Western Region Office.  This individual will support federal, industrial, and commercial projects in a field and office setting.  The ideal candidate is self-motivated and has excellent written, verbal communication, and computer skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • The position will require travel and field work. Field tasks are in an outside setting in a variety of weather conditions.
  • Will work under the supervision of a Senior Environmental Professional.
  • Field activities include monitoring and sampling activities, construction observation, conducting visual site inspections, conducting field monitoring of existing surface and subsurface monitoring stations, collecting groundwater, surface-water and sediment samples as well as documenting field activities and participating in daily tailgate safety meetings.  
  • Office activities include analysis and interpretation of analytical results and data, assistance with the preparation of reports and technical documents associated with field sampling and other field related tasks.
  • Will be expected to thoroughly check permit applications, data tables and figures.
  • Will do field mapping and map preparation and maintain spreadsheets/databases of chemical results and other data for projects, prepare charts, conduct routine scientific calculations and run computer programs.
  • Will follow company safety standards, participate in safety training and assisting the preparation and implementation of site safety plans.
  • Will travel to project sites mostly in Western Region (Arizona and New Mexico), as needed.  

 

Role Requirements 

  • BS or MS in Environmental Science or related technical degree.
  • 0 – 3 years + environmental or field experience.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA Training desired.
  • Proficiency with MS Office products including MS Word and Excel.  AutoCAD and GIS experience is a plus. Computer programming and troubleshooting experience is a plus.
  • Must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to safety, quality, detail, and strong time management capabilities required.
  • Will be required to lift equipment and carry laboratory samples/equipment which may weigh up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites mostly in Arizona and New Mexico as needed.  
  • Ability and willingness to work in a field setting, with the potential to work in adverse weather conditions.
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving policy.
  • Ability to obtain access to Federal Facilities or security clearance, if needed.
Mid-Level Environmental Professional – Albuquerque, NM

Role Overview

Banda Group International, LLC (BGI) is currently accepting applications for a Mid-Level Environmental Professional to support the Albuquerque, NM Western Region Office. This Mid-Level Environmental Professional will support a diverse range of field and office support tasks, including but not limited to, regulatory compliance, environmental field data collection, monitoring well installation, mathematical calculations, development of regulatory compliance plans, development and updating project schedules, tracking project expenses, preparing technical reports, plans, and specifications. Projects are primarily located within the BGI Western Region of the United States.  The ideal candidate will be a team-player with the ability to support a wide range of projects both in a field and office setting, must have excellent written and communication and computer skills.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • This position offers the opportunity to work with, learn from, and be mentored by senior environmental staff. 
  • The position is approximately 50% field work and 50% office work on industrial, commercial and federal sites.
  • Field activities may include: logging of soil borings and rock cores, design and oversight of groundwater supply wells, design and oversight of monitoring well installations and geophysical logging programs, collection of environmental samples, working at locations with hazardous environments, oversight of subcontractors, enforcing health and safety requirements, review of seismic and subsurface geophysical data, conducting aquifer testing, as well as documenting field activities.
  • Office activities include: tracking of project scope, schedule, and budgets; responding to client requests for information; preparation of boring log documentation; analysis and interpretation of data and analytical results and assistance with the preparation of work plans, sampling and analysis plans, site assessment reports and/or groundwater monitoring reports. 
  • Additional office activities will include preparing various draft project reports, such as location studies, environmental studies, and regulatory compliance plans. Under direct supervision of the Western Region Operations Manager, execute a variety of basic environmental activities, including data collection and compilation, and assembly and analysis of field information. 
  • Will be expected to thoroughly check permit applications, data tables, figures and boring logs/well construction diagrams.
  • Will assist with project management and provide support to the Western Region Operations Manager for a variety of project management tasks including invoicing, preparing project deliverables, reviewing subcontractor invoices and tracking hours and budgets for projects ranging in size and complexity.
  • Will follow company safety standards, participate in safety training and prepare and implement site safety plans.
  • Will travel to projects sites.  Overnight travel may be required.

 

Role Requirements 

  • BS in Environmental Science (Geology, Hydrogeology or related technical degree). MS desired but not required.
  • 5+ years’ experience in the environmental consulting field.
  • Experience with overseeing the design, testing and installation of monitoring wells is a plus.
  • Must be a self starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have solid technical report writing skills.
  • Computer skills (Microsoft Suite, Outlook, ArcGIS). 
  • Attention to detail, organization abilities and strong time management capabilities required.
  • Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours.
  • Will be required to lift equipment and carry laboratory samples.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA training desired. Ability and willingness to travel to project sites mostly in Arizona and New Mexico as needed. 
  • Ability and willingness to work in a field setting, with the potential to work in adverse weather conditions.

Safety Professional – Albuquerque, NM

Role Overview

Banda Group International, LLC (BGI) is currently accepting applications for an Environmental Safety and Health Manager to support the Albuquerque, NM Western Region Office. This safety professional will be responsible for  occupational safety and health concerns including physical, chemical and/or biological hazards, process safety, incident investigations, safety training, safety inspections, investigations for incident reports, ensuring workplace conditions comply with BGI and client occupational health and safety standards, coordination of hazardous products and waste handling, storage and disposal, and coordination of committees and specialty teams. Projects are primarily located within the BGI Western Region of the United States.  The ideal candidate will be a team-player with the ability to support a wide range of projects both in a field and office setting, must have excellent written and communication and computer skills.  

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Actively observe and provide feedback to the field crew to eliminate at-risk behavior, identify safety issues and help ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Perform injury management including minor first aid, incident root cause investigation and reporting, return to work as needed.
  • Conduct daily inspections of job sites actively observing and providing feedback around the crew’s work, tools, and equipment to eliminate hazards and identify at-risk behavior; advise on and help ensure corrective actions are taken.
  • Develop and implement job hazard analyses.  
  • Take an active role in the planning of upcoming work on the site to help the team identify potential safety issues and solutions.
  • Manage projects, programs and permits related but not limited to air permitting, wastewater, storm water & hazardous and non-hazardous waste management, community right-to-know reporting, and other applicable environmental regulations.
  • Assist with developing, conducting, and documenting the job site safety orientations for all new team members, subcontractors, and other appropriate vendors, visitors, etc.
  • Develop and set up systems to ensure proper handling of all hazardous material including proper use, storage, shipment, spill control and cleanup, and disposal.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety or environmental requirements per state and federal regulations.
  • Perform periodic industrial hygiene and environmental sampling.
  • The position is approximately 75% field work and 25% office work on industrial, commercial and federal sites.
  • Will follow company safety standards, conduct and participate in safety training, and prepare and implement site safety plans.
  • Will travel to projects sites.  Overnight travel may be required.

 

Role Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental, Safety, Engineering, Science or related field.
  • Advanced degree preferred
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) required, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), desired.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience in environmental field, with construction management experience. 
  • Proven track record of delivering results in a high-performance continuous improvement environment
  • Effectively articulates issues, facilitates their resolution and presents results verbally and in writing to multiple levels in the organization
  • Ability to quickly adapt into a new organization and make immediate impact through a positive and proactive nature, high energy level and credible experience
  • Must have strong interpersonal skills, be goal and performance oriented and be able to set priorities, establish work plans and provide specific management feedback
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification required.
  • 40-hour HAZWOPER OSHA training required.
  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving policy. 
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to work at Federal Facilities and can obtain DOE clearance, if needed.
