Chris Kurtzhals is the Director of Security overseeing BGI’s corporate security, team leadership and security planning. Mr. Kurtzhals develops and implements programs and standard operating procedures to protect employees and create safe and complaint work environments for BGI and its clients.

Mr. Kurtzhals has more than 30 years of experience in military/civilian police and corporate security. He has developed a hijacking response policy for Continental Airlines and its South Pacific–based flight crews, as well as designing and implementing a tactical medic program providing oversight for Mission Security Teams in support of Lockheed Martin and SpaceX rocket launch operations. Mr. Kurtzhals is certified as a SWAT Officer, Field Training Officer, Gang Intelligence Officer, and Anti-Terrorism Officer during 11 years as a police officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department. He has managed certified Police Officer Standards and Training programs and spearheading grant proposals to the Department of Homeland Security to help fund training for the Police Department, serving as a lead investigator, trainer, and Security Forces team member in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Kurtzhals is an adjunct instructor at Colorado Northwestern Community College Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Park Ranger Academy with emphasis in national/corporate security and anti-terrorism in the US and International locations.

Mr. Kurtzhals holds a master’s degree in Homeland Security, Magna Cum Laude from Trident University. A Bachelor of Science, Cum Laude, in Criminal Justice with an emphasis in Homeland Security from Excelsior College, Albany, N.Y. He also has a certificate in Terrorism Studies from the University of Saint Andrews, United Kingdom. His numerous certifications include Colorado Peace Officer Standards and Training Instructor certifications, Response to Active Shooter Instructor, Assault Prevention/Violent Behavior Control Instructor, and Department of Homeland Security Incident Response to Terrorist Bombings Instructor, Recognition and Prevention of Suicide Bombers, Community Response to Active Shooter Events and NRA instructor, Taser Instructor, Less Lethal Instructor.

Mr. Kurtzhals enjoys traveling, volunteering with the American Cancer Society and Operation Restored Warrior.
