Support for Performance Assessment/Composite Analysis for MDA G
LOCATION: Los Alamos National Laboratory, NM
CLIENT: Newport Nuclear News BWXT – Los Alamos (N3B)
Material Disposal Area (MDA) G is a disposal facility for low level radioactive waste at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) that has been operating since 1957. MDA G consists of approximately 100 acres and contains 35 disposal pits and over 200 disposal shafts. The facility is permitted under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and is subject to the Compliance Order on Consent between the New Mexico Environment Department (NMED) and LANL. Model-based decision analyses tools including performance/risk assessments and composite analyses are utilized to evaluate risks posed from disposal activities. The Performance Assessment/Composite Analysis (PA/CA) examines the combined risk of radionuclide releases. Annual reviews and determinations of the adequacy of the PA/CA are conducted to evaluate whether the conclusions reached by those previously completed analyses continue to be valid. BGI provided support in the preparation of the FY2020 Annual Summary Report for MDA G PA/CA maintenance activities for submittal to NMED for review and approval.
